Positive Choices
Choices are a little bit like opposites. Black and white, right and wrong, day and night. If you choose to paint a picture blue, it looks very different than if you choose to paint a picture yellow. If you choose to eat healthy food you will feel very different than if you choose to eat junk food. Every choice that you make has a consequence – something that happens because of that choice. If you choose to work hard, your life will be very different than if you don’t. If you choose to eat breakfast in the mornings you will be able to do much better learning than if you choose not to eat breakfast.
Today’s story is about two owls that make very different choices that had very different results.
Long ago in a forest full of deep green leaves and raggedy, brown tree trunks, two very different owls lived with their mother. One was a wise owl who made good choices, wise decisions and lived a good life. Everyone could see that he was a wise owl. He would listen to others when they were talking and think about what they had to say. He followed rules because he knew that they were there to keep him safe. If you needed advice, the wise owl was the one to go to. He would think through your situation, talk to you about options that you could choose and their consequences and help you make a positive choice. He was a very good owl to know!
The other was a foolish owl. He never listened to anything that anyone had to say. He didn’t worry about following rules and would often put himself and others in danger. He was so foolish that no one ever asked him for advice. Nor did he ask other people for guidance – he was far too foolish for that! All the other owls wondered how he managed to make it through the day, he was so foolish. The foolish owl made foolish choices with disastrous consequences, and did foolish things.
